Doing Better, Mile By Mile

We focus on practical operational improvements that help lower emissions, improve fuel efficiency, and support more sustainable supply chain performance. Our initiatives include moving a majority of freight through intermodal rail transportation, participating in the SmartWay Transport Partnership program, implementing anti-idling technologies, leveraging GPS-enabled fleet analytics, and improving energy efficiency across terminals and facilities.

Our sustainability strategy is supported by operational initiatives that can be monitored, measured, and continuously improved over time. This includes emissions reporting, SmartWay participation, GPS-enabled fleet analytics across more than 1,500 trucks, anti-idling technologies, route optimization, intermodal utilization, and facility-efficiency programs designed to help reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions, and improve overall environmental performance across the supply chain.

Fleet Efficiency

Our fleet-efficiency initiatives include anti-idling equipment, no-idle operational policies, GPS monitoring across more than 1,500 trucks, route optimization systems, aerodynamic trailer skirts, cab extenders, fuel tank skirts, and super single tire technology. Together, these measures help reduce fuel usage, minimize unnecessary engine runtime, and support more efficient fleet operations.

Route Optimization

We use GPS-enabled fleet monitoring, route optimization systems, and intermodal transportation planning to help reduce unnecessary mileage, improve fuel efficiency, and lower greenhouse gas emissions across our network. By optimizing how freight moves through road and rail lanes, we are able to reduce highway miles while maintaining reliable transit performance and operational consistency.

Performance Tracking

Technology-driven performance monitoring plays an important role in our sustainability efforts. Through connected fleet systems, telematics, and operational analytics, we track vehicle performance, fuel efficiency, routing behaviour, idle time, and other operational indicators that help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support more responsible fleet operations.
